This comprehensive pH assessment of commercially available beverages in the United States found that most are potentially erosive to the dentition.
The critical pH of enamel (the hard protective outer shell on our teeth) is 5.5, meaning that food and beverages that fall below 5.5 are erosive, weakening our enamel. As you can see in the chart above, the best beverage for health is water.
Sweetened beverages are addicting, and cause more than tooth problems.
Some beverages we may think are “healthy” like “natural” sodas, teas, diet sodas are still erosive to tooth structure.
